Pelican Rapids, MN – A Pelican Rapids man has been sentenced for assaulting a woman with a knife and vodka bottle in 2021.

On Thursday morning (January 30th), 40-year-old Joseph Greene III received a 45-month sentence at the MN Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

According to court documents, a warrant was issued for Greene’s arrest on August 6th, 2021, following a report of domestic violence in Pelican Rapids. Officers spoke with the victim and she said she had been in a relationship with Greene for around 6 months. During that time, she said Greene had isolated her from her family, assaulted her, and threatened to kill her children and her family if she ever contacted the police.

The victim also described a specific encounter  that included Greene hitting her in the head with a vodka bottle and stabbing her in the arm with a knife. The victim said she even told people she had COVID so she could isolate herself and keep them from seeing her injuries.

In October, Greene plead guilty to one count of 2nd Degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon in exchange for the dismissal of the other counts of assault and domestic assault he was charged with. Greene was previously convicted of Felony Domestic Assault on June 10th, 2015 and of Second Degree Assault on June 10th, 2015 in Steele County.
