Otter Tail County, MN – Otter Tail County Commissioners and staff recently attended the Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC) Legislative Conference, where they engaged in discussions with state legislators on key issues impacting the county and its residents. The event provided an opportunity for Otter Tail County leaders to advocate for policies that support county services and address community needs.
During the meetings, commissioners and staff focused on several critical topics, including infrastructure funding, reforms for sustainable emergency medical services, and resources for mental health services. They emphasized the importance of continued state and local collaboration to ensure that Otter Tail County continues to thrive.
“Infrastructure and community services accessibility are top priorities for us, as they are essential to economic development and quality of life,” said Nick Leonard, Otter Tail County Deputy Administrator. “We had productive conversations with our legislators about securing funding for roads, bridges, and improving emergency medical services access in our rural areas.”
“The AMC Legislative Conference serves as a valuable platform for collaboration between county officials and state legislators,” said Minnesota State Senator Jordan Rasmusson. “By working together, we can develop solutions that benefit Otter Tail County and communities across Minnesota.”
Protecting county taxpayers from proposed cost shifts was also at the forefront of discussions with legislators and Governor Walz’s staff. “Otter Tail County, along with other Minnesota counties are working to protect local taxpayers from proposed cost shifts in the Governor’s proposed budget. During our meetings, we advocated for sustainable funding solutions that maintain essential services without overburdening local budgets,” stated Board Chair Wayne Johnson.
Otter Tail County officials say they remain committed to advocating for policies that enhance services and improve residents’ lives. The County Board will continue to engage with partners to ensure local needs are met and resources are allocated effectively.
