Fargo, ND – Fargo police are investigating a potential threat of violence made against a school or shopping center that was received early on Wednesday, August 27.
The Fargo Police Department, in collaboration with federal partners, immediately launched an investigation to determine the credibility of the threat and to attempt to identify the individual responsible. No school building, school district or shopping center specific to Fargo was named in the threat. At this time, police have no actionable information to validate the legitimacy of the threat and is alerting the public as a precaution.
This afternoon, Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski said, “In light of the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, I want to reassure residents that the Fargo Police Department and its federal partners continue to actively investigate the potential threat made against a school or shopping center that was received early this morning. No school building, school district or shopping center specific to Fargo was mentioned in the threat, and we currently have no information to suggest the threat is credible.”
The Fargo Police Department has notified other local law enforcement agencies, Fargo Public Schools and West Acres shopping center of the potential threat. With Wednesday being the first day of school for Fargo Public Schools, the police department had already planned to increase police presence in and around all schools. The investigation into the threat is ongoing; no further information can be released at this time.
The Fargo Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in reporting any suspicious activity or behavior by calling 911.
