Detroit Lakes, MN – The attorney for former Minnesota Senator Nicole Mitchell is requesting her felony conviction be changed to a misdemeanor at tomorrow’s (September 23) sentencing hearing.
Mitchell was convicted of first-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools by a Becker County jury in July after breaking into her stepmother’s home in Detroit Lakes.
Attorney Dane Dekrey wants Mitchell’s charges be changed to misdemeanors, and her sentence reduced to work release. He argues Mitchell has already been punished for her crimes as she was forced to resign from the legislature and gave up her career in the National Guard.
