(Friends of Maplewood State Park)
Pelican Rapids, MN – Otter Tail County residents can start 2026 with a refreshing and reflective hike up Hallaway Hill in Maplewood State Park on New Year’s Day.
Area Naturalist Dora will bring hikers on a 1.5-mile round-trip journey as they look back on the past year and look forward to the new. Participants will meet at the Picnic Shelter at 10 a.m.
Dress for the weather that day and in layers. The expected trail condition is compacted snow. If conditions allow, feel free to bring your own snowshoes or rent them from the park office by calling the park.
All instruction is provided for free, but a vehicle permit ($7 for a one-day permit or $35 for a year-round permit) is required to enter all Minnesota State Parks. Snowshoe rental is $6 for the day. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
