Fergus Falls, MN – On January 22, approximately 130 farmers and agricultural business leaders gathered at Jennen Farms near Fergus Falls for the 2026 Agriculture Summit focused on key issues impacting West Central Minnesota and agriculture statewide.
Following the Summit, Representative Jeff Backer, who was co-hosting the event, released a statement thanking every who participated, “Thank you to the Commissioner of Agriculture, the Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources, and the Commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for speaking at the event and engaging in meaningful conversations about the future of agriculture in our state.”
Backer said he’s also grateful to the legislators who took the time to attend. He said, “Hearing directly from producers, industry leaders, and community members about the challenges and opportunities facing agriculture is critical. These conversations help ensure we are crafting policies that support farm families, protect our natural resources, and strengthen Minnesota’s agricultural economy for generations to come.”
Discussion topics included delays in Minnesota’s permitting process for farming, livestock, and agricultural operations, along with concerns over regulatory changes and drainage issues. Participants also discussed updates on the Public Waters Inventory and opportunities to expand in-state processing and value-added uses of Minnesota-grown crops.
