Wheaton Man Killed in House Fire

Wheaton, MN (KFGO) – A man has died after an early morning house fire in Wheaton.

The Traverse County Law Enforcement Center received a 911 call reporting the fire just before 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

The Wheaton Fire Department and the Traverse County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 1307 Broadway Avenue in Wheaton.

When first responders arrived, they rescued the homeowner, 63-year-old Kevin Kruize, who was inside the home. Life-saving measures were attempted, but Kruize was pronounced dead at Sanford Wheaton Medical Center.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Traverse County Sheriff’s Office are jointly investigating the fire.
