St. Paul, MN – Representative Jeff Backer (R- Browns Valley) officially gaveled in to convene the 2026 Minnesota Legislative Session Tuesday.
Backer says he is excited to be back in St. Paul representing the district, “I am focused on rural health and making sure you get the care you deserve. My commitment is to strengthen our rural hospitals, protect independent pharmacies, expand access to mental health services, and ensure seniors, families, and farmers can receive affordable quality care close to home.”
Backer says he is also focused on fighting fraud, and that making Minnesota affordable again is his top priority this session.
The legislative session opened with no bills being introduced and no debate. Instead, the House and Senate joined to pay tribute to late Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her family.
