Adviser Dennis Wutzke said that he believes the Fergus Falls FFA excels at 2 things:
We are competitive in many different Career Development Event contest areas. Over the past three years, we have had around 65% of our membership (30-35 members) have won at the Region 3 level and qualified for a state contest or earned an award at the state level such as the MN State FFA Degree. So far this year we have 3 Career Development Event teams qualify for State FFA contests. The Horse team, Ag Sales team, and the Veterinary Science team qualified for state. We also have 4 members (Lydia Anderson, Sophia Lee, Grace Neuleib and Tally Clark) who will receive their State FFA Degree and one Proficiency award member (Brooklyn Waldon). In addition, we have 2 members who have qualified to receive their American FFA Degree at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis IN in October of 2026. Brooklyn Waldon and Madison Lein are among the less than 1% of FFA members who receive the American FFA Degree.
I believe the second thing we excel at is working with younger kids in our community to help them understand the importance of Agriculture in their world. We host two events every year which teaches youth about agriculture. The first one is in May with our KIndergarten Farm Day. Every spring we bus out all Kindergarten students to the Fairgrounds and talk to them about safety around tractors, make butter, explain where their food comes from through the use of cereal grains and dairy products, have a petting zoo set up where they can pet or hold farm animals and learn about how to take care of them and be safe around them, then go on a hayride. The other event we help at is the petting zoo at the Otter Tail County Fair. We work with Ashby FFA, Battle Lake FFA, Pelican Rapids FFA and Rothsay FFA to bring livestock to the Petting Zoo for all four days of the West Otter Tail County Fair. This is organized by a Fergus Falls FFA Alum Tyler Schleske, who received his State FFA Degree in 2013 and his American FFA Degree in 2014.
Membership is open to any Fergus Falls Public School student in Middle School or High School, or homeschool students who take an Agricultural Education class at the High School. Contact Melody Lundquist or Dennis Wutzke for questions.
The Fergus Falls FFA Chapter is always looking for businesses or individuals who are willing to sponsor awards at our Annual FFA Banquet, which this year will be our 61st year. We have only 2 fundraisers per year, FFA Fruit Sales in November and Strawberry Sales in January, which are both done for the year. If anyone would like to sponsor an award at our annual banquet please contact one of the FFA Advisors at 218-998-0544 x9270.
We typically do not do anything special for FFA Week. Hard to do when we are not connected to the main building….Probably a bad excuse.
Melody and I will send you some photos over the next couple of days.
Thank you Dave for putting this together for FFA Week. If you want to interview any of the officers let us know and we can get them to the radio station or do it over the phone.
