One person is dead following an early morning house fire in Becker County.

Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander says the call came in at 4:24 a.m. on Wednesday February 18th regarding a structure fire in Osage, about 30 miles east of Detroit Lakes.

Authorities say a male resident flagged down a passing motorist along Highway 34 and reported the fire, telling them a woman might still be inside the home.

Carsonville and Park Rapids fire crews responded along with a sheriff’s deputy.

A woman was later found inside the residence and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids for treatment of smoke inhalation and possible burns.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The woman’s name will be released pending autopsy results.

Assisting agencies included Carsonville Fire and Rescue, the Park Rapids Fire Department, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office, and North Memorial Ambulance.
