Perham Rinse Station. (Submitted by OTC)
Erhard, MN – Otter Tail County has added a new self-service watercraft rinse station at Erhard City Park, giving boaters another convenient option to clean their watercraft and help stop the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS).
The City of Erhard collaborated with the county to host a new rinse station which is located at the intersection of County Highway 24 and Park Avenue in Erhard. Boaters can use the station to rinse their watercraft, trailers, and equipment before moving to another body of water.
Erhard Mayor Gary Stadum shared, “We are glad to host a rinse station in Erhard.”
In addition to the Erhard station, Otter Tail County operates a staffed decontamination unit at the Otter Tail Lake Sportsman Public Water Access, located 1.5 miles south of downtown Ottertail City off Highway 78.
The county now has three self-service watercraft rinse stations available to the public:
- Lions Park, City of Battle Lake at 749 Lakeshore Drive
- Paul Miller Park, City of Perham at 45476 Co. Hwy. 51
- Erhard City Park at Co. Hwy. 24 and Park Ave.
Boaters can also access courtesy decontaminations at dozens of locations across Minnesota through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Aquatic invasive species can damage lakes, harm native wildlife, and hurt property values. Cleaning, draining, and drying watercraft before leaving any water access point is required by Minnesota law and is the most effective way to prevent AIS from spreading. This project was made possible by the AIS Prevention Aid and with the support of the City of Erhard.
