Otter Tail County, MN – Starting June 1, Otter Tail County is accepting applications for a second round of opioid settlement grant funding. This funding comes from a national legal settlement with pharmaceutical companies whose actions contributed to the opioid epidemic.

This round focuses on stopping opioid and substance use before it starts. Projects should focus primarily on youth up to age 25, but any organization doing prevention work in Otter Tail County is encouraged to apply.

“Prevention is where we can make the biggest long-term difference,” said Emily Frustol, public health educator with Otter Tail County. “When people feel connected and supported, they are far less likely to struggle with substance use. We want to fund organizations building that foundation in our community.”

Who Can Apply?

Nonprofits, schools, faith communities, youth-serving organizations, coalitions, and other community-based groups serving Otter Tail County are all encouraged to apply. Organizations do not need to serve the entire county, but applicants must show how their project will make a difference for people who live here.

What Kinds of Projects Qualify?

The county is looking for programs that prevent drug use before it begins. Examples include:

  • A school bringing in a prevention curriculum
  • A faith community creating space for teenagers to belong
  • A nonprofit teaching life skills and stress management
  • A coalition expanding access to youth mental health support

New and creative approaches are welcome, especially those designed to reach communities that are harder to serve through traditional programs.

How to Apply

Applications are available at ottertailcounty.gov/opioid-settlement-funds beginning June 1. Submit online or email publichealth@ottertailcounty.gov. The deadline is July 15.
