Students and staff at Kennedy Secondary School were evacuated Monday afternoon after a fire alarm was activated, prompting a response from emergency personnel.
According to a statement from Fergus Falls Public Schools Superintendent Jeff Drake, the alarm was triggered at approximately 1:35 p.m. on June 1.
The Fergus Falls Fire Department and local law enforcement responded immediately and were on scene investigating the situation.
“As of now, there is no visible sign of a fire,” Drake said in the statement. “However, out of an abundance of caution, students and staff have evacuated, and the building will be thoroughly inspected by emergency personnel before anyone is permitted to re-enter.”
School officials said the building will remain evacuated until emergency responders complete their inspection and determine it is safe for occupants to return.
“The safety of our students and staff is our absolute highest priority,” Drake said.
Fergus Falls Public Schools said additional information will be released as it becomes available and once the building has been cleared for re-entry.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is released.
