Fergus Falls, MN – The Minnesota Farmers Union will be holding a Northwest Minnesota legislative session recap in Fergus Falls next week.
MFU Government Relations Director Stu Lourey will be at the Fergus Falls Public Library Community Room from 12-1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23 to provide an update on what Farmers Union is advocating for in St. Paul and Washington D.C.
MFU Membership Outreach Coordinator for Otter Tail County Brittney Johnson says these types of events are important to showcase what is happening in the world of agriculture down at the Capitol. She says, “We have a team of government relations folks working down at the Capitol every session. They accomplish a lot of great stuff, but we don’t always hear about it up here. So our government relations team is going to be going across the state to talk about what was accomplished in the 2026 legislative session and some of the things they are going to be working on next year.”
Johnson says that one of the issues that got her involved with Farmers Union was the large shortage of veterinary help in the state. “And we actually saw some really great legislation pass this year,” Johnson said. “Senator Rob Kupec had a bill to sort of expand the scope of work for licensed veterinary technicians. Now licensed veterinary technicians are able to assist with emergencies if a veterinarian is not available. That was a big win for us.”
In addition to the legislative recap on June 23, MFU is also hosting its Otter Tail County convention on July 31 at the Shoreline Restaurant in Battle Lake for those looking to get involved.
