Fergus Falls, MN – Tomorrow (Tuesday) is the first day of the 2026-2027 Fergus Falls Public School year. As students prepare to head back to the classroom, University of Minnesota experts say anxiety is a normal part of the transition.
Psychiatrist Dr. Katie Lingras says changes to routines, new schools, and uncertainty about the year ahead can all create stress for children. She says anxiety often appears through behavior changes, stomach aches, headaches, or sleep problems rather than verbal complaints.
Lingras recommends easing back into school-year routines before classes begin and providing reassurance and consistency at home to help children feel more secure.
