Fergus Falls, MN – Today, News Talk 1250 AM KBRF is celebrating 100 years of broadcasting, making it one of the longest-licensed radio stations in Minnesota.
On October 20, 1926, radio pioneer Charles LeRoy Jaren established radio station KGDE in Barrett, Minnesota. In 1928, community leaders successfully encouraged the station to relocate to Fergus Falls. The station evolved through several call letters, including KGDE and KOTE, before becoming News Talk 1250 KBRF.
Generations of broadcasters, journalists, engineers, sportscasters, and staff members have contributed to the success of KBRF. The station has provided vital coverage of local government, schools, agriculture, business, sports, community celebrations, severe weather, and breaking news, serving as a trusted source of information for listeners throughout Otter Tail County and beyond.
At Monday night’s City Council meeting, Fergus Falls Mayor Anthony Hicks proclaimed October, 20, 2026 as KBRF 100th Anniversary Day.
