Woodbury, MN (KFGO) – Former DFL State Senator Nicole Mitchell won an election for a City Council seat in Woodbury, Minnesota.
The Air National Guard veteran and former lawyer was sentenced to six months in prison in September 2025. A jury convicted her of burglary for breaking into her stepmother’s Detroit Lakes home while she was sleeping.
Mitchell said in police body camera video she was trying to get some of her late father’s belongings. Her attorneys claimed she was checking on her stepmother who has Alzheimer’s Disease.
Mitchell won one of two seats up for grabs among 10 candidates with 13% of votes.
“Thank you to everyone who was so kind and supportive during my campaign! Also, around the country…as someone who has served as an election judge many times, I loved that so many people exercised their right to vote!”
