Grant County Man Taken Into Custody After Threats of Violence and Self Harm

Herman, MN – A man was taken into custody after having a severe mental health crisis and threatening violence in Herman Friday night.

At around 8:36 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of threats of violence in Herman. Deputies learned that the individual was having a mental health crisis and was posing a risk to himself and others. The victim was able to leave the home safely, and the man in crisis fled before law enforcement arrived.

Deputies later located the individual’s car and pulled him over. During the traffic stop, the man engaged in additional self-harming behaviors. Deputies say they were able to eventually take the man into custody using less-than lethal tools.

The individual was brought to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. Officials say the injuries were not from the less-lethal tools utilized by deputies.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, Big Stone County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, State Patrol, West Central Area SWAT Team, Wheaton Ambulance, and the Herman Fire Department.
