Fire crews were working from the ground and the air Friday afternoon to contain a wildfire that prompted a highway closure on the Iron Range, near Gilbert - one of at least three wildfires burning in northeast Minnesota.

Court records show that a man fatally shot by police in Virginia, Minn., on May 1 suffered from mental illnesses including schizophrenia and severe methamphetamine use disorder. Police released video of the incident on Friday.

Senators on Friday voted unanimously to pass a bill to make grooming a felony. It heads back to the House, where lawmakers are expected to concur and send it to Gov. Tim Walz.
