The Fergus Falls State Hospital. (Derek Sidian, KBRF News)
Fergus Falls, MN – The Otter Tail County Historical Society is sponsoring an exterior tour of the Fergus Falls State Hospital on Friday, July 10, at 7 p.m.
Participants will meet at the west end of the main complex. Parking is available in the Government Services parking lot. The cost of the tour is $10. As access to the interior is closed, the tour, led by retired OTCHS Executive Director Chris Schuelke, will explore the hospital’s history while walking around the unique, awe-inspiring exterior.
OTCHS Manager LeAnn Neuleib warns that the tour elicits a gamut of emotions. Some of the stories are uplifting and comical, some are sad, while others are uncomfortable and disturbing. The 117-year history of the Fergus Falls State Hospital is so complex, and the tour will present as accurate a picture as possible…the good, the bad and the ugly.
