West Otter Tail County Fair 4-H Showcase. (WOTC)
Fergus Falls, MN – Despite the extreme heat conditions, the 4-H animal shows will continue as normal during the West Otter Tail County Fair this week.
On Monday, West Otter Tail 4-H posted on Facebook that as of now, livestock check-in from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday will remain as scheduled. The organization says warm temperatures are not uncommon during fair season and conditions at the fair are typically similar to what the animals are experiencing at home, but the decision to bring animals to the fair is ultimately up to each family.
The decision comes after West Otter Tail 4-H leaders discussed the concern of heat at length with the Fair Board, the fair veterinarian, and the Regional Animal Science Educator. The organization is encouraging exhibitors to prioritize their animals’ well-being by providing plenty of fresh water, shade, and ventilation, and closely monitoring them throughout the week.
The 150th West Otter Tail County Fair is this Wednesday through Saturday. Gate admission is free all four days thanks to support from local businesses.
