Elbow Lake, MN – A new scam is going around the Grant County area.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to be on the lookout for Publisher’s Clearing House scams that are currently making the rounds.
Sheriff Jennifer Vipond says scammers may call, text, email, or message you claiming you’ve won a large prize, but they will often ask you to send money, purchase gift cards, or provide personal or banking information to “claim” your winnings.
Sheriff Vipond says to never give out your personal or financial information and never send money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency to claim a prize. If you truly win a legitimate prize, it should never cost you anything to receive it.
If something doesn’t feel right, hang up, don’t respond, and talk with a trusted family member or contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Office before taking any action.
