Fergus Falls, MN – The Fergus Falls Fire Department held an Open House and Chili Feed on Monday night in honor of the start of Fire Prevention Week.
This year’s theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety. Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” The focus is on reducing the dangers of lithium-ion battery fires across household devices like smartphones, e-bikes, and laptops. To prevent catastrophic failure, the initiative is to educate on critical habits such as using original chargers, avoiding soft surfaces while charging, and recognizing signs of battery damage.
Fire Prevention Week is the longest running public health and safety observance in the United States. It was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which burned nearly 2,000 acres, destroying over 14,000 structures, and killing around 250 people. The most destructive day of that fire was October 9, which is why Fire Prevention Week is always the week that includes October 9th. Unfortunately, large scale, disastrous fires continue into our modern day, which is why fire preventions continues to be an important and necessary topic.
American Legion Post #30’s chili was voted the best-tasting chili for this year’s Chili Feed.
