Hoffman, MN – A driver was found safe after a Canadian Pacific train collided with a truck near the intersection of State Highway 55 and 130th Street in near Hoffman early Sunday morning.
Deputies from both the Grant and Douglas County Sheriff’s Offices responded to the report, which came in at around 1:19 a.m. Sunday. Grant County Sheriff Jennifer Vipond says the vehicle was located around two-thirds of a mile away from the point of impact and was towed to a secure location.
A search for the vehicle’s driver continued as deputies worked to determine if any one was in the vehicle at the time of the collision. During the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was unoccupied, and that there had been a passenger in the vehicle.
The passenger told deputies that the occupants had attempted to remove the truck from the railroad tracks, but were unsuccessful before the two individuals separated.
Due to concerns for the driver’s safety and the circumstances surrounding the incident, a coordinated search was conducted. Multiple resources were utilized, including drones, a K-9 team, and ATV’s. Investigators also attempted to use the GPS information from the driver’s cell phone; however, those efforts were unsuccessful.
After an extended search, the driver was located and was found to be unharmed.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota DNR, and Kensington First Responders.
