
Wahpeton, ND – The Wahpeton Police Department announced Monday that its phone number, 701-642-7722, was hijacked and used as part of a phone scam.
Police say the Scammer has been impersonating Police Chief Matthew Anderson. The calls are on behalf of the Federal Trade Commission, demanding money in the form of money orders or cashier’s checks. The caller ID has been coming up as Apeton Police Department. This is a scam.
The Wahpeton Police Department will never contact an individual to demand payment or threaten arrest in this manner.
