Henning, MN – Alcohol is believed to be a primary factor in a high-speed crash that left the driver seriously injured in rural Henning Saturday night.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office says 30-year-old Alexander Handy of Eagle Bend was heading east on County Highway 40, west of Almora, at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his SUV, left the road, and collided with road signs and several trees before coming to rest in the south ditch.
Handy sustained serious lacerations to his head and torso and was transported to Astera Hospital for treatment. He was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt.
Witnesses reported that the SUV had been operating recklessly and at a high speed prior to the crash. Deputies believe alcohol and unsafe speed are primary factors in the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Parkers Prairie and Astera Ambulance Services, the Parkers Prairie Fire Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
The incident remains under investigation.
