Fergus Falls, MN — Voices Rise is a new dementia-friendly community choir launching this fall through the Giving Voice Rural Initiative and supported by the Fergus Falls Center for the Arts.
The choir will bring together people living with memory loss, dementia, care partners, family members, friends, and community volunteers to sing, connect, and build meaningful relationships through music.
Sometimes called a memory choir, these choirs are designed for everyone to participate—regardless of musical experience. There are no auditions, and the focus is on joy, connection, and belonging.
“We are excited to bring this opportunity to our community” said Director Aimee Nordlund. “This choir is about more than music. It’s about friendship, belonging, and creating a place where people living with dementia and those who care about them can experience joy together.”
Research shows that singing together can reduce isolation, support emotional well-being, strengthen relationships, and create meaningful moments of connection. Dementia-friendly choirs also help communities recognize the strengths, abilities, and contributions of people living with dementia.
People living with dementia, care partners, family members, friends, and community volunteers are invited to attend an open house on Friday, September 18 from 10-11:15 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church (515 Western Ave, Fergus Falls) to learn about the choir.
