Underwood, MN – Two local school district ballot questions were rejected by voters on Tuesday.

On ballots in the Underwood School District, residents were asked to authorize an increase to the School District’s referendum revenue of $1,591 per pupil. The proposed new referendum revenue authorization would be first levied in 2026 for taxes payable in 2027 and applicable for ten years. In the West Central Area School District, voters were asked to approve the issuance of $33,805,000 of the district’s general obligation school building bonds for the acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities. This would include the construction and equipping of an elementary school addition; renovations and upgrades to science rooms and career and technical education (CTE) spaces; deferred maintenance; remodeling and updates to special education classrooms; the construction of softball fields, a track, fitness center and playground improvements; and the completion of water retention, grading and utility improvements to the school site and facility.

The vote narrowly failed, with about 48.5% (1,287) of residents voting yes and 51.5% (1,367) voting no.
